Getting there
Zephyr Cove: driving, pickup, parking
How to reach the Dixie II dock from South Lake Tahoe, Reno or Carson City, how the pickup option works and what to expect with parking.
Reserve your Tahoe dinner cruise ↗Where Zephyr Cove sits
Zephyr Cove is on the Nevada shore of Lake Tahoe, on U.S. Highway 50, about six miles north of South Lake Tahoe. Cave Rock, the next landmark up the road, is about nine miles north of South Lake Tahoe, which puts Zephyr Cove a few miles short of it. If you are staying at the casinos at Stateline or in South Lake Tahoe, the dock is a short drive north along the same highway. The Dixie II leaves from the resort's marina at 760 U.S. Highway 50, which is the address to put in a map or a taxi app.
From Reno and Carson City
Wikipedia notes that, in good conditions, Tahoe is about one hour from Reno and thirty minutes from Carson City, and that Reno-Tahoe International Airport has the closest scheduled passenger flights. The main routes into the basin are Interstate 80 via Truckee, U.S. Highway 50, and Nevada State Route 431 via Reno. In winter you often need chains or snow tires from any direction, and weekend traffic can be heavy. Add margin to your drive, because check-in at the dock is 30 minutes before the cruise sails.
Parking at the resort
The resort has limited on-site parking. The daily parking fee is not part of the cruise ticket, so budget for it separately. Because the lot is limited, arrive with extra time on busy summer days. If you want a drink with dinner, consider leaving the car behind altogether, and use the pickup option or a taxi.
The pickup option
The cruise has a version with pickup from select areas around Lake Tahoe. Shuttle reservations need to be made at least two hours before the cruise, and the version on the booking page asks you to confirm at least two and a half hours before departure. The shuttle only stops at pickup points confirmed in advance, and it does not stop at every location. If you do not know your pickup point when you book, you must phone the operator to confirm it, so have your hotel's name and address ready.
Which hotels the shuttle serves
On its own booking page, the resort lists the stops its shuttle uses, each with a meeting time before departure. They include 3 Peaks, Beach Retreat, Golden Nugget, Harrah's Lake Tahoe, Hotel Azure, Lakeland Village, The Landing and Station House. Meeting times range from about 45 minutes to an hour and 20 minutes before the cruise sails, and Edgewood arranges its own transport with its concierge. If your hotel is not on the list, plan to drive or take a taxi.
Public transport
Wikipedia notes that the Tahoe Transportation District runs fare-free local transit in and around South Lake Tahoe and links the basin with the Carson Valley and Carson City. Before you rely on a bus for the trip to Zephyr Cove, check the route and the timetable, and above all the time of the last bus back, because the cruise finishes in the evening. A taxi or the pickup option is the safer plan for the return.
Getting back
The shuttle that takes you to Zephyr Cove is a pickup option, and the booking page describes it as pickup, so check with the operator how and when you get back to your hotel. If you drive, remember that the cruise runs about two and a half hours and finishes after dark for most of the year, on a mountain highway where, in winter, chains or snow tires are often needed. Allow for that when you plan how much to drink at dinner, and keep the operator's phone number on your phone for any change of plan.
